The Designing Process at DLM
The Design Process?
We strive to achieve creative and inventive solutions to any design problem by searching for the 'best' solutions possible. Thus, we produce
a design which performs the required functions, utilizing a minimum of materials, to be built as minimal cost, and most importantly, to be aesthetically pleasing. Our optimal solution
has a balance between creative aims and practical limitations.
To achieve dazzling solutions to design challenges, a systematic method is employed by the DLM staff. A brief anatomy of the design process is discussed below.
Recognition: Sharply defined with clarity specified requirements of job. Make a list of the design requirements, limitations, and general factors affecting the design. Our thinking is sufficiently broad to allow for unique and creative solutions.
Ideas: After basic facts pertaning to the job have been organized, it is advantageous to determine as many design solutions as possible. Essentially, "brainstorming" with a free interchange of ideas between the client and the design team.
Refinement: Select several of your best preliminary ideas for further development and refinment so that they may be evaluated more fully. Make detailed sketches that will enable you to determine sizes, angles, clearances, and other information necessary for further refinement.
Decision: Select the best design for implementation. Sometimes the best features of the preliminary designs can be combined to produce a better final design.
